„How was all this possible? We do not have the answer, Mr. President. Perhaps there is none. And given answer must be the wrong answer. But the members of your Commission believe, Mr. President, that we must seek an answer.”

Research results
My research interests lie in social memory, memory places, and memory politics in the 21st century, especially in Poland and in the USA in relation to the Holocaust. To understand contemporary social activities, we must examine them in historical context. The genealogy of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum gives an understanding of how and why the victims of criminal activities, above all victims of the Holocaust are remembered today. Thanks to this we understand what these places are today, and in part we will also understand what other places of memory are.
