About me
PhD Adriana Krawiec
My name is Adriana Krawiec. I live near the Ghetto Heroes Square in Krakow. Why am I stressing this fact? Well, since 2018, I have been studying the issue of memory policy in the context of the Holocaust in Poland and the USA.
It is within the borders of these two countries that there are emblematic places of memory. One of them is the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, which was established on the site of the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp. In the United States, the Holocaust Memorial which is located right next to the Washington obelisk, was built from scratch. It is called The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and it is one of the most renowned educational centers on the Holocaust.
I spent millions of hours in the archives of these centers and working with archival documents, as well as talking to the people who created or created these centers. I’ve read volumes of publications about social memory, memory policy, memory places, and memory culture. After years of research, I present my results in the publication.
